Yoga and Meditation
Yoga practice is meant to make us calmer, happier, and more comfortable with our bodies and our relationships. Although we do a lot of stretching, strengthening and breathing, these things are a means to an end, not the end itself.
At Jackson Yoga we embrace the different ways of becoming more self-aware and more engaged with the world. We look after our health so that we can look after the people we love, and so that we can leave the world a better place because we passed through it.
In our classes we celebrate the desire to stop living our lives on autopilot and develop present moment awareness. We explore new patterns of movement and learn to take joy in the lives we have now. We breathe and relax and connect with our creativity. We explore both ancient and contemporary wisdom with respect to movement, health, and coping with the craziness of modern life. We laugh a lot. We work really hard at letting go of judgment and self-criticism and on practicing more compassion towards our selves and others.
The hardest part of any journey is taking that essential first step but we make it easy to get started. You don’t have to be athletic. You don’t have to be flexible. You do have to be honest about what your body is willing and able to do, and know that you get to decide if a pose is helpful or unhelpful for you.
I’ve been practicing since the 90’s, and I’m still learning new things every day. Yoga and meditation can be incredible tools to help surf the ups and downs of life. If you’re interested in learning yoga with us all you need is a body and a sense of humour.
